Brigham Health International and Chengdu First People’s Hospital Announce MOU to Explore Strategic Collaboration

Brigham Health International, LLC (BHI) and Chengdu First People’s Hospital (CFPH) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to collaboratively consider a strategic relationship designed to meet the changing healthcare needs of patients in the city of Chengdu, in Sichuan province, and across the region. Potential areas of discussion and collaboration include development of a simulation center and training program, clinical procedures, tele-health technology and remote second opinions, healthcare administration, and research.

BHI is an affiliate of Brigham Health that aspires to transform the future of health care globally through science, education, and compassionate care. Founded in 1942, CFPH is a tertiary hospital with 3,000 beds that integrates Western and traditional Chinese medicine.

As part of the major government- initiated healthcare reform currently taking place throughout China, the Chengdu municipal government has made international collaboration with top-ranked medical institutions a priority. A key area for exploration under the MOU is advanced medical training provided through the Neil and Elise Wallace STRATUS Center for Medical Simulation at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, one of the most comprehensive and technologically advanced medical training centers in the world. “This collaboration presents an opportunity to share our significant experience in customized simulation- based approaches to training that improve clinical skills and ultimately enhance patient safety and outcomes,” said Steven Thompson, president of Brigham Health International and senior vice president and chief business development officer for Brigham Health.

“With a more competitive medical environment and an increasing need for high- level healthcare services from our patients, CFPH is committed to international cooperation that will be key in providing the most current international standards in care using state-of-the art technology throughout the hospital,” said Cong Zhao, MD, president of CFPH. “With this MOU, we are taking the first step in achieving this goal through collaboration with an institution that has a world-class reputation for medical care and research.”

“CFPH, like Brigham Health, is committed to improving outcomes through advancing clinical care, education, and ongoing research,” said Mark Davis, MD, vice president of Brigham Health International and executive director of Business Development and Strategic Initiatives at Brigham Health. “International collaboration is central to the mission of Brigham Health, and we look forward to exploring mutually beneficial work with the leadership and clinical team at Chengdu First People’s Hospital.
